Cougar Fans Get Sneak Peak Of 2010 BYU Gymnastics
PROVO -- The BYU gymnastics team enjoyed its first opportunity to compete in front of fans Thursday afternoon as the Cougars held an intrasquad meet in the team’s practice gym located in the Smith Fieldhouse.
“I was pleased with the meet today,” BYU coach Brad Cattermole said. “We made some mistakes but we were able to stay on the equipment which is always good.”
The gymnasts performed on each of the four apparatuses: vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise. The meet gave fans the opportunity to get up close and personal with the team.
The meet provided the team with experience in performing in front of a crowd and with judges scoring their routines. It also gave BYU coaches the chance to gage how their team performed in a meet-type situation.
“We were not as sharp as we would like to be but we knew that there would be pressure with the judges and fans there,” said Cattermole. “We hope to be able to build on what we did today and hope to be ready for the first meet of the season.”
Scores were not available at the conclusion of the meet.
BYU will open the 2010 season on Jan. 14 at home in the Smith Fieldhouse against in-state rival Southern Utah University.
