Gymnasts Take First Place at Rocky Mountain OpenParkinson Wins the All-Around Competition

PROVO -- In a meet that included the University of Denver and the Air Force Academy, the BYU gymnastics team took first place at the Rocky Mountain Open in Colorado Springs on Saturday night.

Behind a strong performance on the beam, the Cougars scored a 194.325, compared to 192.325 by the University of Denver and 191.775 by Air Force. BYU took the top three spots in the beam, with Kari Dye, Karen Froerer, and Kelly Parkinson scoring a 9.850, 9.850, and 9.825, respectively.

Parkinson took the all-around competition with a 39.250. She finished in the top three in every event, including a 9.825 on the floor, beam, and bars. Jeni Lopez finished third in the all-around, with a 38.200.
