BYU Records Season High Against Utah

PROVO -- The Cougars scored a season high 196.025 before more than 2,000 fans in the Marriott Center on Friday night, the fourth highest score in school history. But it was not enough to defeat the University of Utah, who scored a 197.225 overall, including a perfect 10.0 by Theresa Kulikowski on the uneven bars.

The Cougars started the meet with strong performances on the vault, with a 48.900, and on the bars, with a 49.400, the second highest bars score in school history. The Utes were outstanding on vault and bars, scoring a 49.100 and 49.550 respectively.

In the All-Around, Kelly Parkinson, ranked at No. 7 nationally in the All-Around, didn't have her best night, scoring a 39.150. Utah's Deidra Graham won the All-Around with a 39.475, and Theresa Wolf scored a 39.450.

"She (Parkinson) deserves a down night every once in a while," said BYU coach Brad Cattermole. "All in all, I am very happy with the performance of the team. We're still a little wiggly and sloppy, but we're coming along."

Parkinson scored a 9.900 on the vault, a 9.925 on the bars, before faltering a little on the beam and floor, where she scored a 9.600 and a 9.725. Other top performers for the Cougars were Kim Little, with a 9.925 on the bars, and Candace Cosgrave and Brooke Craig, who each scored a 9.900 on the floor excercise.

BYU will travel to Cedar City on Monday, February 12, to compete with Southern Utah. The Utes will face Arizona State on February 16 in Salt Lake City.
