BYU gymnastics brings home three MRGC accolades in final week of competition

LOGAN, Utah — The BYU’s women’s gymnastics team earned three Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference accolades in the final week of competition, the organization announced Monday.

Sophomore Sophie Dudley earned Co-Floor Specialist of the Week for the second week in a row, while Sydney Benson and Allix Mason shared honors as Co-Vault Specialists of the Week.

BYU competed in its final regular season meet against the Arizona Wildcats on Friday, Mar. 10 in the McKale Memorial Center. The Cougars posted their highest team vault score of the season with a 49.375. This score is BYU’s highest team score on any event in the 2023 season. Despite a new season-high, the Cougars fell to the Wildcats 197.275-196.050.

Dudley notched a score of 9.900 on floor in the third rotation against Arizona, solidifying her back-to-back MRGC honors. Also earning scores of 9.900 and sharing the accolade with Dudley are Boise State’s Courtney Blackson and Utah State’s Alivia Ostendorf and Ariel Toomey. Dudley has now earned scores above a 9.800 on floor in eight meets this season.

Both Mason and Benson earned scores of 9.900 on the vault apparatus to contribute to BYU’s highest team vault score of the season against the Wildcats. This is the second MRGC accolade for each gymnast respectively. Also posting scores of a 9.900 and sharing the honors with Mason and Benson are Boise State’s Courtney Blackson and SUU’s Caitlin Kho.
