BYU Defeats Utah State 196.450 to 195.425 on Senior Night

PROVO, Utah — The BYU women's gymnastics team defeated Utah State 196.450-195.425 behind several season highs on senior night.

“We've been working on eliminating our distractions in warmups and I think it's worked,” said head coach Guard Young. “Celebrating our seniors, it was very nostalgic being in the Smith Fieldhouse tonight. It was really special to send off our seniors from the place they have competed in for the last four or five years."

The Cougars honored the following six seniors after tonight's meet against the Aggies: Allix Mason, Rebekah Ripley, Sarah Barron, Lindsey Hunter, Anyssa Alvarado and Elease Rollins.

BYU started the night on vault. Sophomore Sophie Dudley started off strong for the Cougars with a score of  9.800. She was followed by Madison Really-Patton who scored a 9.750. BYU kept its momentum with a 9.775 by Sydney Benson. Freshman Kylie Eaquinto scored a 9.875 to lead the Cougars during the first rotation. 

Following rotation one, BYU was in the lead with a team score of 49.025, to Utah State’s 48.775. 

The Cougars soared on bars in the second rotation. Senior Allix Mason started for the Cougars with a 9.750, and while competing in the Smith Fieldhouse for the first time in her career, Eaquinto scored a career high 9.825. Senior Anyssa Alvarado led BYU and all gymnasts with a 9.875 closing out the second rotation. 

BYU led Utah State 98.025-97.450 going into the third rotation. 

Mason started things off in the third rotation for the Cougars with a season high 9.825, while Raesly-Patton continued BYU’s momentum tying her career high with a 9.875. Sophomore Mina Margraf led the Cougars with a 9.900. Sophomore Heidi Schooley closed out the third rotation for BYU scoring a 9.800.

The Cougars went to their final rotation leading the Aggies 147.225 to 146.450. 

Eliza Millar started things off for BYU with a 9.850 on the floor apparatus, tying her career high. Sydney Benson followed up with a 9.850 while Schooley posted a career high 9.875. BYU wrapped things up with a 9.725 by senior Rebekah Ripley. 

BYU ended the night with a score of 196.450 to Utah State’s 195.425. 

Mina Margraf took home the highest beam score with her 9.900 while Alvarado notched the highest score on bars with a 9.875.

The Cougars next compete against Alaska on Wednesday, Mar. 1 at 11 a.m. MT at the Marriott Center.
