BYU scores a 194.925 in loss to Boise State on the road
BOISE, Idaho — Behind a Boise State perfect 10 on bars, the BYU gymnastics team lost to the Broncos, 196.500-194.925.
Despite beating the Broncos in the Marriott Center earlier this season, the Cougars were not able to pull out a second win. Senior beam queen Elease Rollins posted a 9.925 on the apparatus for the highest beam score of the meet.
The Cougars struggled early in the meet with two falls on the uneven bars in the first rotation. Freshman Kylie Eaquinto and senior Anyssa Alvarado notched individual scores of 9.825 to lead the group. BYU finished its first rotation with a team score of 48.200, behind Boise State’s 49.300.
BYU moved to vault for the second rotation. Sydney Benson led the Cougars with a 9.850, followed by a 9.825 by Eaquinto. BYU finished vault with a team score of 48.825. The Broncos made history with their first perfect 10 on bars by Emily Lopez, giving them a 98.425-97.025 lead heading into the third rotation.
The Cougars found their groove on floor, with Eliza Millar posting a 9.825 to start off the rotation. She was followed by a 9.850 by Benson and a 9.825 by Sophie Dudley. Senior Rebekah Ripley ended the floor rotation with a 9.750.
With another event score of 48.825, the Cougars went into their final rotation with a score of 145.850 to Boise State’s 147.575.
Freshman Madison Raesly-Patton opened BYU’s final rotation with a 9.825 on beam. Heidi Schooley also posted a 9.825, with Rollins leading the Cougars on the apparatus with a 9.925. The Cougars finished the meet with a 194.925.
The Cougars next compete on Friday, Feb. 24 in the Smith Fieldhouse for senior night against Utah State at 7 p.m. MT.
