Three Cougars earn MRGC accolades in week four
LOGAN, Utah — The Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference honored three BYU gymnasts with weekly accolades, the conference announced Monday. Elease Rollins was recognized as Co-Beam Specialist of the Week, while senior Allix Mason and freshman Kylie Eaquinto were named Co-Vault Specialists of the Week.
BYU competed against the Utah State Aggies on Friday, Jan. 27 in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. The Cougars took home the win with a season-high score of 196.650 to Utah State’s 195.900. BYU notched its highest team vault score with a 48.925, and its highest beam score of the season with a 49.350 to beat the Aggies.
Ranked No. 20 nationally on the balance beam, Rollins scored a 9.925 against Utah State, along with three other MRGC gymnasts to earn the Co-Beam Specialist of the Week accolade. Her second of the season, Rollins joined Boise State’s Emma Loyim, Adriana Popp and Utah State’s Sofi Sullivan for the week four honors.
Along with Emily Lopez from Boise State, Mason and Eaquinto each earned the first MRGC accolade of their careers, sharing Co-Vault Specialists of the Week. Both notched a 9.850 on the apparatus to earn the MRGC recognition in week four of the 2023 season.
