Alvarado and Ripley Earn MRGC Accolades in Week 3
LOGAN, Utah - On Monday, the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference honored senior Anyssa Alvarado as Bars Specialist of the Week and senior Rebekah Ripley as Floor Specialist of the Week.
BYU had its first home meet of the season on Friday, Jan. 20 in the Marriott Center in front of 2,664 fans. The Cougars beat MRGC rival Boise State 195.475 - 195.300.
Alvarado tied her career-high on bars with a 9.925 for the Cougars, earning her Co-Bars Specialist of the Week accolades with SUU’s Shylen Murakami. This is Alvarado’s second MRGC accolade this season, and the third time she has scored above a 9.9 on the apparatus.
Along with two other MRGC competitors, Ripley earned a 9.925 with her Barbie-inspired floor routine. This marks a new career high for the St. George native. Sharing the weekly honor on floor is SUU’s Rachel Smith and Karley McClain, all three notching 9.925’s respectively.
