No. 19 BYU returns to the Smith Fieldhouse to face SUU

PROVO, Utah – No. 19 BYU hosts No. 23 Southern Utah in the Smith Fieldhouse on Friday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. MST.

Most recently, the two teams faced off in the America First Event Center in Ceder City, Utah, on Jan. 21. At that competition, the Thunderbirds edged out the Cougars 196.450-196.425 to take home the narrow victory. 

Meet Information

THE COUGARS. Currently ranked No. 19, BYU recorded a 196.450-195.975 victory in its meet on Saturday, Feb. 12 at Boise State. Senior Sadie Miner-Van Tassell competed for the All-Around (39.425) and received the MRGC Gymnast of the Week honor for the fifth consecutive week. She also took the top spot on the podium for vault (9.875) and floor (9.900) in the meet against the Broncos. Along with Miner-Van Tassell, Sophia McClelland notched a 9.850 on the balance beam to share the top spot with BSU’s Emily Lopez.

THE THUNDERBIRDS. Currently ranked No. 23, SUU defeated Utah State 196.975-196.800 in its home meet on Friday, Feb. 11. With the help of a new school-record score of 9.975 on the uneven bars by Shylen Murakami, the Thunderbirds beat the Aggies for the first time this season. Murakami's score on the bars apparatus secured her the MRGC Bars Specialist of the Week honors in week six.
