BYU continues to rack up MRGC accolades in Week 5

LOGAN, Utah - On Monday, the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference honored three BYU gymnasts with four different awards for their outstanding performances on Saturday.

Senior Sadie Miner-Van Tassell earned Gymnast of the Week for the fourth week in a row while also being named Floor Specialist of the Week. BYU’s Elease Rollins received the honor for Beam Specialist of the Week for the second week in a row, and Haley Pitou took home a shared honor for Bars Specialist of the Week with BSU’s Emily Muhlenhaupt.

No. 18 BYU scored a 196.700 to take down the No. 24 Boise State Broncos (196.525) in its second home meet on Saturday, Feb. 5 in the Smith Fieldhouse. 

Miner-Van Tassell competed for the All-Around against Boise State, notching another new career-high score of 39.475 to earn the MRGC Gymnast of the Week honor for the fourth week in a row. She notched a career-high score of 9.925 on her floor routine to earn the MRGC accolade for floor in week five. 

Rollins, a junior from West Jordan, Utah, took home the top score of the night on balance beam with a 9.950. Senior Pitou shared the top spot on the podium with BSU’s Emily Muhlenhaupt with individual scores of 9.925 on uneven bars. This score is Pitou’s new career-high score on bars for BYU.
