Two BYU Gymnasts bring home MRGC accolades in Week 3

LOGAN, Utah - On Monday, the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference honored BYU senior Sadie Miner-Van Tassell as Gymnast of the Week for the second week in a row. Along with this award, Miner-Van Tassell also received a shared honor for Vault Specialist of the Week with teammate Lexi Griffith and SUU’s Caitlin Kho.

No. 21 BYU scored a season-high 196.425 on Friday but still fell to No. 18 Southern Utah in an extremely close meet at the America First Event Center. The Thunderbirds finished the night with a 196.450 to edge out the Cougars.

Miner-Van Tassell competed for the All-Around in the meet against Southern Utah, notching a total score of 39.100 to earn the MRGC Gymnast of the Week honor for the second week in a row. Griffith, a senior from Allen, Texas, and Miner-Van Tassell, in her final season from nearby Mapleton, Utah, shared the top spot on the podium for vault with Southern Utah’s Caitlin Kho with individual scores of 9.875. This score tied Griffith’s career-high score on vault in her season debut.

Vault Specialist of the Week: Lexi Griffith & Sadie Miner-Van Tassell, BYU (9.875)
