PROVO, Utah – BYU gymnastics head coach Guard Young has released the schedule for the 2022 season.

The Cougars finished 2021 as the No. 19 team in the nation and won the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference title. The team pushed to new heights with a 196.656 average to improve upon its 196.228 average from the previous season.

High expectations motivate the Cougars as the 2022 season approaches, working hard as gymnasts take on new roles and demands.

“We are focused on helping some of our back-up gymnasts from last year and new freshmen step into starting roles through developing consistency and clean routines,” said Natalie Broekman, BYU associate head coach. “We believe that they can do it, and our team will pick up where we left off in 2021.”

During the 2022 season, the Cougars are scheduled to participate in 10 meets leading up to the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Championships in Boise, Idaho on Saturday, March 19.

The schedule starts with the third annual Rio Tinto Best of Utah NCAA Gymnastics Meet against University of Utah, Southern Utah University and Utah State University on Friday, Jan. 7 at the Maverik Center.

BYU will go on to host four meets in the Smith Fieldhouse and one meet in the Marriott Center. The first home meet will take place on Jan. 28 when the Cougars host MRGC rival Utah State. The rivalries continue as BYU hosts Boise State (Feb. 5) and Southern Utah (Feb. 18). In March, BYU will welcome both Illinois State (Mar. 4) and University of Arizona (Mar 12).

A few out-of-state meets include visiting No. 39 University of Nebraska (Jan. 15) and No. 24 Boise State University (Feb. 12).
