PROVO, Utah — BYU gymnastics head coach Guard Young has announced the promotion of Natalie Broekman to associate head coach.

“She’s very independent and does a great job with the girls,” Young said. “She has already been doing all the assignments and tasks that this job entails, and we are very excited for her to expand on those in this new role.”

Broekman attended BYU as a student and was part of the gymnastics team from 1996-1999. During her time as a student-athlete, she broke the school all-around record and was named a NACGC-W All-American on balance beam in 1996.

“The promotion came very much as a surprise to me,” Broekman said. “It means a lot that Guard and our administration wanted to validate my efforts in this way. As a student-athlete and as a coach, I’ve always felt blessed to do what I love at BYU."

Before beginning her coaching career at BYU, Broekman worked at Gold Medal Gymnastics in Chandler, Ariz., under the direction of Olympic gold medalist Amanda Borden. She also coached for nine years at Arizona Olympian Gymnastics.

Broekman has been part of the BYU coaching staff since 2015 along with Young and assistant coach Brogan Evanson.

"I'm thankful we will continue working together to build greatness within our gymnastics program," Broekman said. "Go Cougs!"
