Shannon Evans nominated for AAI Award
PROVO, Utah – The American Athletic, Inc. (AAI) has announced the nomination of BYU All-American senior Shannon Evans for the 2020 AAI Award given to the most outstanding senior female gymnast in the nation.
Evans is one of the 33 nominees up for the AAI Award, which is comparable to the Heisman Trophy of women’s gymnastics and has been around for more than 30 years.
A crowd favorite from American Fork, Utah, Evans trained at All American Gymnastics prior to her time as a Cougar. She competes in all four events with career highs in each event being above 9.900. Her highest all-around score stands as a 39.575. Head coach Guard Young loves that Evans asks to go last in every event, wanting to anchor the team.
So far this season, the MRGC honored Evans as the MRGC Gymnast of the Week during Week 5 and Week 6. Additionally, she received honors on the uneven bars, vault and floor exercise.
This upcoming April, Evans will graduate with a bachelor's degree in exercise and wellness. After BYU, the senior will head to Utah Valley University to follow her next dream of becoming a nurse, specializing in labor and delivery.
Head coaches in the NCAA nominate an athlete of their choice. The 33 nominees will be narrowed down to six finalists and the winner is announced at the NCAA Championships banquet in April.
