Three Cougars named MRGC Specialists of the Week

PROVO, Utah – Angel Zhong, Shannon Hortman Evans and Kyleigh Greenlief were each named specialists of the week in the seventh week of Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference awards.

"It’s great to be recognized for your performances," head coach Guard Young said. "Kyleigh is a fifth-year senior walk-on, so it's great to see her have such a great year. Angel has one of the better vaults on our team, so it’s nice to see her finally get that recognition. We completely changed Shannon's routine from last year, and I think we’re seeing the results."

Evans and Greenlief both set career-high scores on uneven bars and floor, respectively. Evans broke her previous record of 9.875 with a 9.900 on bars Friday night. Greenlief posted the highest score of the night after earning a 9.950 on her floor routine, shattering her previous mark of 9.875.

Zhong was one of four Vault Specialists of the Week after matching her career-high of 9.850 against Boise State at the Smith Fieldhouse on Friday. The Cougars’ performances led BYU to edge out No. 14 Boise State 196.225 to 196.175.

The Cougars travel to Logan, Utah, this Friday, March 2 to take on the Aggies. The meet will begin at 7 p.m. MST.
