Hortman receives third Gymnast of the Week award
PROVO, Utah — Freshman Shannon Hortman received her third Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference Gymnast of the Week award in the ninth week of competition.
A native of American Fork, Utah, Hortman earned gymnast of the week accolades after scoring a 39.200 in the all-around in the Cougars’ 196.050-195.000 defeat at Minnesota. She led the Cougars on vault with a 9.850, finishing second overall, and finished among the top five on bars and beam with a 9.850 and 9.825, respectively. Hortman rounded out her total with a 9.675 on floor.
This season, BYU has earned 11 weekly conference awards, including three gymnast of the week honors. The Cougars have also garnered two specialist honors on vault, four on bars and one on both beam and floor.
BYU hosts Arizona on Friday, March 10. The meet begins at 7 p.m. MST and will be broadcast on BYUtv. Live stats will also be available.
