Four gymnasts sign with BYU gymnastics

PROVO, Utah — BYU women’s gymnastics head coach Guard Young announced the signing of four new gymnasts on Wednesday with recruits from Utah and Canada.

Shannon Hortman, Hannah Miller, Angel Zhong and Helody Cyrenne signed their National Letters of Intent for the BYU gymnastics 2016-2017 season.

"I am very excited about the 2016 signing class," Young said. "They are all strong all-arounders with national and international experience. They each have their own strengths that compliment one another nicely."

Shannon Hortman

Hometown: American Fork, Utah
School: American Fork High School
Gym: All-American Gymnastics
Coaches: Dawn Johnson and Jimmy Pratt
Event(s): All-around

Hortman is a Junior Olympic National qualifier and finished 17th on uneven bars, third in all-around at Region 1 Championships and fourth in all-around at the Utah State Championship in March 2015. 

Hannah Miller

Hometown: Farmington, Utah
School: Viewmont High School
Gym: Olympus Gymnastics
Coaches: Ryan Kirkham and Jessica McDonough
Event(s): All-around

Miller finished second place in the all-around at the 2015 Region 1 Championships and took home first place on floor.

Angel Zhong

Hometown: Langley, British Columbia, Canada
School: Walnut Grove High School
Gym: Langley Gymnastics Foundation
Coaches: Liudmila McLellan and Dmitry Avarvarei
Event(s): All-around

Zhong finished 17th at the 2015 Canadian National Championships in the all-around (16 and older division), second place on vault and first place on floor.

Helody Cyrenne

Hometown: Beauharnois, Quebec, Canada
School: Demortagne High School
Gym: Gym-Richelieu
Coaches: Michel Charron and Marie-Josee Lapperriere
Event(s): All-around

Cyrenne was the alternate to the silver medal Canadian Pan American team and was a member of the 2014 Pan Am championships. She finished 7th in all-around at the 2015 Elite Canada Championships, third on vault, fourth on beam and first on floor.
