Cougars place third in tri-meet at Denver
DENVER – The BYU gymnastics team finished in third place on the road with a total score of 195.425 against No. 17 Denver and Iowa Saturday night.
BYU’s score was its third highest of the season and finished with team-season highs on the vault and floor with a 49.175 and 49.150, respectively. Denver finished first with a 196.725 and Iowa finished second with a 195.850.
On vault, Jordan Schult recorded a career-high 9.875 and led the team with Makenzie Johnson adding the same score. Sin To and Kaycee Gassaway earned a career high and season high, respectively, with a 9.825.
Jill Van Mierlo tied a career-high 9.800 and led the team on bars. Emily Vidmar followed with a 9.775, while Johnson finished with a 9.725. On beam, Van Mierlo also recorded a team-high 9.750, while Vidmar finished with a 9.725.
On the floor exercise, Van Mierlo finished with a career-high and Johnson tied a season-high with a 9.900 each. Vidmar followed by tying a season-high 9.825, while Gassaway recorded a 9.800.
Van Mierlo finished in second as an all-arounder with a 39.225 with Johnson following in third place with a 39.200.
The Cougars stay on the road to take on Boise State at the Taco Bell Arena on Friday at 7 p.m. MST.
