TEMPE, Ariz. -- BYU gymnastics scored a 194.525 and finished second in its meet Saturday night against No. 22 Arizona State at the Wells Fargo Arena.
Eliane Kulczyk matched her career-high 9.850 on bars to go along with Raquel Willman Hatch's identical score to help the Cougars notch a 49.075 to start the meet. The duo also led the team on the vault with a 9.875, which is a new personal best for Hatch.
Next, Kulczyk and Makenzie Johnson scored team highs on the floor routine with a 9.825 each. KayCee Gassaway tied her career high with a 9.775.
After three events, the two teams recorded almost identical scores with the slight advantage going to ASU, 147.100-147.075. But a few falls on the beam led to a 47.450 for the Cougars while the Sun Devils recorded a 49.100 on their final event.
BYU will compete again next week when it hosts in-state opponent Southern Utah on Friday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. in the Smith Fieldhouse.
