Cougars travel to face Boise St and Denver
PROVO, Utah — The No. 23 BYU gymnastics team continues its 2014 campaign on the road for a meet with No. 11 Boise State and No. 14 Denver on Friday at Taco Bell Arena in Boise, Idaho.
“Last week, Boise State had its highest start ever and we were right in the mix,” BYU head coach Brad Cattermole said. “In this kind of a meet, it’s probably going to come down to the balance beam, because both Boise and Denver are very good.”
In the quad meet in Salt Lake City last week, the Broncos recorded a 195.850, the highest opening score in the school’s history, and the Cougars followed with a 194.550.
With one meet in the books, BYU is ranked No. 23 in the nation for highest total season average (194.550) while Denver boasts a No. 14 ranking (195.200).
Sophomore Makenzie Johnson, who was recently named the Gymnast of the Week by the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Championship, led BYU with a 39.00 all-around score last week.
The meet begins at 7 p.m. MST. Live stats and streaming video can be followed on broncosports.com.
