BYU Women's Team First and the Men's Team Second in Preseason Coaches Poll

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU women's team is favored to win this year's Mountain West Conference title and the men's team is a close second behind Colorado State, in a preseason poll by the league's coaches.

Colorado State is picked to be first on the men's side, but only seven points separated the top two spots. The Rams notched 27 points to capture first place, while BYU finished second with 25 points and New Mexico claimed third place with 20 points. BYU received three first place votes while Colorado State and Wyoming received two and one, respectively. Air Force (18 points) was picked to finish fourth in the league this season, followed by Utah (16 points) in the fifth spot and Wyoming sixth (14 points).

For the third straight season, BYU gathered a score of 50 points (six first place votes) as it was picked to win the women's championship for the fourth time in as many years. Colorado State received one first place as it totaled 46 points in claiming second place. Utah claimed the third spot with 41 points, followed by Air Force (38 points) and New Mexico (32 points) in fourth and fifth place, respectively. Wyoming settled in at sixth place with 27 points, while San Diego State (25 points) and UNLV (21 points; one first place vote) rounded out the poll.
