Women's cross country jumps six spots on National Rankings

PROVO, Utah – The BYU women’s cross country team moved up six spots in the USTFCCCA Women’s Cross Country National Coaches' Poll which was released earlier today.

Pre-season rankings listed the BYU women’s cross country team at No. 27 and after the team's home course win against No. 25 Weber State the Cougars have moved up to No. 21 in the polls after gaining 61 points.

The team’s performance at the home opener on Sept. 3 showed how competitive the team will be this year. The women’s team achieved a 19-40 victory over the Wildcats with help from senior Erika Birk, who finished first for BYU in the 5k race against Weber State with a time of 17:25.7.

This is the highest the Cougars have been ranked this early in the season since 2010 (20th). The team will compete next in the Virginia Panorama Farms Invitational on Friday, Sept. 23.
