PROVO, Utah—Senior women’s basketball player Haley Steed has decided to take her final year of eligibility and will return for the 2012-13 season.

Due to three torn ACL surgeries in three-consecutive seasons, the NCAA granted point guard Steed two extra years of eligibility following her true senior year in 2010-11. Steed announced her return to the team Thursday night.

During the past season, Steed led the Cougars to a 26-7 overall record and second-place finish in their first season in the West Coast Conference. She went on to score 17 points with eight assists in the WCC Championships final against Gonzaga, aiding BYU to its first conference championship title in 10 years and an automatic NCAA Tournament bid. Steed earned WCC Championships MVP for her performance.

Steed finished the season ranked No. 4 in the nation for assists with 237 total and has pushed her way to No. 2 in BYU history for career assists. Her 7.2 assists per game helped put BYU at No. 1 in the nation for assists. She set her career high of 14 assists in a game against Pepperdine in 2012.

Steed was also named a finalist the Nancy Leiberman Award, the highest honor for point guards in the nation.
