Riley Receives WCC Player of the Month Honor

San Bruno, Calif. – Senior center Kristen Riley has been named the West Coast Conference Player of the Month for January, announced the league office Wednesday.

Riley, the 6-foot-3 co-captain from San Clemente, Calif., was the leading scorer in six of the nine contests played during the month and was the leading rebounder in five, tying in one. Her outstanding performances helped guide the Cougars to an 8-1 WCC record, a nine-game win streak and their No. 22 ranking in the AP Poll entering the week of Jan. 30.  During the month of January, BYU played seven of its 10 league games on the road.

She also picked up three double-doubles during the month while putting up double digits in points in six games and grabbing double digits on the glass in four.  Riley ended the month with a total of 133 points, 75 rebounds, 24 assists, 13 blocks and 11 steals.

For the month, she averaged 14.8 points per game, 8.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.6 blocks per game. Riley also shot 61.9 percent from the field, 50 percent from 3-point range and 76 percent at the charity stripe. She ranks second in the WCC in rebounds and in field goal percentage.

During the last week of January, Riley’s game performances were also recognized on the national level earning College Basketball Mid-Major Conference Player of the Week honors by netscoutsbasketball.com. She was also named to the Madness High-Major WCC Player of the Week by collegesportsmadness.com.

The (21-4, 9-2) Cougars are in league action this week hosting No. 18/19 Gonzaga (21-3, 10-1) Thursday night in a 7 p.m. tip off. General admission tickets to the game are just $2.
