PROVO -- Senior point guard Jazmine Foreman brought the spark that boosted the BYU women’s basketball team (9-5, 1-0) to a 75-64 win against UNLV (7-8, 0-1) Wednesday, putting up a season-high 19 points.

Foreman shot 50 percent for the night and contributed five rebounds, six assists and two steals.

Helping Foreman was Coriann Fraughton with her second double-double of the season, scoring 15 points with 13 rebounds. Mindy Bonham also reached double figures with 12 points, five rebounds and four assists. Haley Hall dished out a team and game high 10 assists and put up eight points.

"We came out and played really well tonight," BYU head coach Jeff Judkins said. "Coriann had a great game with her double-double and Jazmine was really solid. She took what the defense gave her and played well throughout the entire game."

The Cougars’ full-court press gave the Rebels trouble in the early minutes of the game, leading to four steals and six UNLV turnovers.

The game changed hands five times in the first half. Foreman pushed the Cougars back into the last tie of the period with a jumper assisted by Hall.

Seven of the Cougars’ 11 field goals were off three-pointers. Three of those came from Fraughton, who reached double figures with 11 points in the first half.

A three-pointer at the buzzer gave UNLV a 40-39 lead as the players left the court for halftime.

BYU took the lead right back to start the second half with freshman Jennifer Hamson putting in a layup and Fraughton following it with another two points.

Foreman stole the ball from UNLV’s Byrd with 9:30 left in the game for a coast-to-coast layup, starting the Cougars on a 6-2 run that would secure the lead and take them to victory.

The Cougars continued to charge ahead, taking an 11-point lead with two minutes left to play and not letting go for the rest of the game.

"The difference between the first and second half was our defense," Foreman said. "We really picked it up defensively and we knew that they weren't going to die out. UNLV's team members are competitors just like we are."

UNLV’s Kelli Thompson led the game with 25 points. Sandrine Nzeukou had eight rebounds to lead the Rebels.

Next up, the Cougars will travel to Colorado Springs, Colo., to take on Air Force this Saturday at 2 p.m. MT.
