OREM -- Playing just a few miles from home, the BYU women’s basketball had no trouble getting the 74-47 victory over Utah Valley University, Thursday.

"I thought Mindy had another great game tonight," said BYU head coach Jeff Judkins. "I'm also proud of how Dani played tonight, she gave us a nice spark. I think our bench was really solid in tonight's game and gave us a big lift."

Senior Mindy Bonham led all scorers with 19 points to tie her season-high and end just one point shy of reaching her 1,000th career point. Her seven assists were also a season-high. With the 19 points against Utah Valley, Bonham has now recorded double-figures in seven games this year.

Joining Bonham in double-figures for the fourth time this season was teammate Kristen Riley with 10 points against the Wolverines.

Freshman Jennifer Hamson and junior Dani Peterson both recorded season-highs with eight rebounds apiece to lead the Cougars.

BYU (6-3) held the Wolverines (1-7) scoreless for three minutes late in the first half after having some difficulty shooting in the opening minutes of the game. The defensive effort sparked a 12-0 run for the Cougars with seven of those points coming from Bonham who finished the half with 14 points to lead all players.

Utah Valley took their last shot of the half with six minutes still to go while the Cougars proceeded to take a 17-point lead as they left the hardwood for halftime.

The Cougars started the second half on a 20-10 run to bring the victory even closer. Both teams finished the game strong but BYU’s lead proved too much for the Wolverines to catch up with.

The BYU women’s basketball team will return home to the Marriott Center on Saturday, Dec. 11, at 3 p.m. to host Weber State.
