Team Breaks 100 Against Seasiders

LAIE -- Haley Hall led the BYU women’s basketball team to a night of season highs, jumping into triple-digits and grabbing a 101-51 win against BYU Hawaii in the Cougars’ first game of the Hukilau Invitational Friday.

“This was a great game for us,” BYU head coach Jeff Judkins said. “We got our confidence back in our shooting. This was a great total team effort. I thought Kim Parker and Jennifer Hamson had a really nice game.”

Hall recorded a season high of 18 points, with four 3-pointers, five steals and three assists. Kim Parker followed with a career and season high of 15 points, with five rebounds. Also in double digits were Mindy Bonham with 13 points and four assists, Kristen Riley with 11 points, Coriann Fraughton with 10 points and Jennifer Hamson with a career and season high of 10 points and six rebounds.

For the second time this season, six or more Cougars scored in double figures. All 11 athletes who played in Friday’s game put points on the board for the Cougars.

Jazmine Foreman led the team in assists with nine, another season high.

BYU (4-3) shot 54 percent, a season best, while holding the Seasiders (1-5) to 39.5 percent and only 2-9 from the three-point line. The Cougars also forced 31 turnovers, scoring 41 points off of the turnovers.

Richelle Rieben put 12 points up for BYU Hawaii and Danna Lynn Hooper scored 10.

The Cougars cranked up the pressure from the start with a three-pointer from Foreman which led the Cougars on a 13-2 run, including back-to-back three-pointers from Hall and Bonham.

Hamson made her first field goal of the season to bring the score to 22-11.

BYU put up 12 unanswered points, including two consecutive three-pointers from Hall, to end the half 44-25.

The bench took over scoring for the second half, scoring 44 points for the Cougars. The Seasiders’ bench scored 31.

With the longest scoring streak of the half, a 15-1 run gave the Cougars their 50-point lead to seal the game. Alexis Kaufusi put up the last shot to push BYU past 100 and end the game 101-51.

Next up, the Cougars will take on San Diego Saturday at 5 p.m. MT in their last game of the Hukilau tournament. BYU radio will broadcast the game online.

All 11 players that played in the game scored, six of which tallied double digit scoring performances.

For the second time this year, the Cougars had six players put up double figures in points.

BYU scored 101 total points, the most this season and the second best under coach Judkins. The last time the Cougars scored over 100 points was against Chadron State on Nov. 7, 2009

Player Notes

Haley Hall’s 18 points are new season highs, they mark her third double figure game of the year and her 21st overall. The points were also team and game highs. She also had five steals for season, team and game highs.

Kim Parker came off the bench to score 15 points for new season and career highs. The three treys made in the game tie for season and career highs. The points mark her second double digit contest of the year and career.

Mindy Bonham scored 13 points in the win recording her fifth double figure game of the season and her 45th overall.

In the game, Coriann Fraughton put up 10 points for her fifth this year and 32nd in her career.

Freshman Jennifer Hamson picked up 10 points and grabbed six boards for new season and career highs. The rebounds were also team and game highs.

Jazmine Foreman dished out nine assists for season, team and game highs.

Marie Beck played for 14 minutes, the most this year. She also scored three points which tied for season and career highs. In the game, she also grabbed three rebounds for season and career highs.
