Women Finish Second, Get No. 2 Seed at MWC Championships

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – With a 70-65 win over TCU on Saturday, the BYU women’s basketball team finished second in the 2010 MWC regular season with an 11-5 league record, 20-8 overall. They will be the No. 2 seed at the Conoco Mountain West Conference Women’s Basketball Championships. This year’s tournament will be held at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas on March 9-13.

The Cougars and TCU (22-7, 12-4), the MWC Regular Season champions, are guaranteed a bye into the semifinal rounds of the league tournament. BYU will play its first game on Fri., Mar. 12 at 2:30 PT while the Horned Frogs play their semifinal game at noon.

BYU will play as the No. 2 seed for the first time since the inaugural MWC Championship in 2000. Last season, the Cougars lost to UNLV in the first round of the tournament. BYU has reached the title game six times, winning the championship in 2002. The Cougars are 14-9 all-time in the MWC Tournament. The Cougars are the only MWC team to have earned tournament wins over the other eight institutions.

San Diego State will be the No. 3 seed while Utah comes in as the No. 4 seed. The Aztecs get a first round bye and will play their first game on Wed. Mar. 10.
