PROVO -- Coriann Wood lit up Portland for a new career high, propelling BYU to a 69-57 win over the Pilots in the Marriott Center on Thursday for its third consecutive victory.

Wood was one point shy of her career-high going into halftime, scoring 15 points off 5-of-8 shooting, including 2-of-3 from beyond the three-point line. The junior came off the bench four minutes into the game, scoring 12 of the Cougars’ next 15 points.

Wood topped her career mark with a late basket in the second half, finishing with 17 points to go along with six rebounds and a block.

“I think Cori knows her role really well,” said BYU head coach Jeff Judkins. “She comes in and realizes she needs to be on offense and be aggressive. She came in the first half and did that for us.”

The Cougar defense kept a tight lid on Portland, led by a full-court press that frustrated the Pilot offense and forced 19 turnovers while keeping themselves to just six, a season low. The Pilots’ leading scorer, Laiken Dollente, was held to 4-of-13 shooting.

“That could be a record,” Judkins said of his team’s turnover mark. “It probably won the game for us. The turnovers were a big key.”

Haley Hall submitted a full boxscore, contributing 10 points, six assists, five rebounds, to tie her career-high, and three steals in a team-high 33 minutes.

The Cougars stretched the lead into double-digits with five minutes left in the first half, using a 10-1 run to take a 31-18 lead. Jazmine Foreman scored on a layup, then Hall took a swing pass after a steal in the backcourt, sinking her second three-pointer of the half.

Foreman tied Hall for a game-high six assists, adding nine points, three rebounds and two steals. BYU had 20 assists on the night.

Mindy Bonham (formerly Nielson), scored in double-figures for her fourth-consecutive game and ninth of eleven games overall this season, scoring 13 points with four rebounds, three assists and one steal.

“We moved the ball well and got a lot of open looks,” Judkins said. “That’s encouraging as a coach that you’re running your stuff and executing.”

The Cougars will continue their play in the Marriott Center on Saturday against Nevada. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
