LAIE -- Sophomore Kristen Riley helped lead the BYU Women's basketball team to a 72-60 road victory against the University of San Francisco Dons with a season-and career-high 15 points in the Hukilau Invitational in Laie, Hawaii, Friday.

"We did a great job of sticking together as a team," said BYU head coach Jeff Judkins. "The girls did what they needed to do to get the win.I was encouraged by Kaufusi's performance and I'm also very proud of Riley and the game she played tonight."

The Cougars dominated the first half, leading 41-20 at the end and shooting 51.4 percent from the field. BYU had 14 assists in the first half, compared to San Francisco's one assist. Riley scored 13 of her 15 points in the first half.

Three players for BYU finished the game scoring in double-figures from Riley, freshman Alexis Kaufusi and junior Mindy Nielson. Kaufusi finished the game with 12 points of her own to tie her career-and season-high while Nielson finished with 14 to tie her season-high.

BYU has now had at least two players score in double-figures in every game this season with back-to-back games coming against Kansas State and the University of San Francisco where three players recorded double-figure points.

"We had moments where we played really well and moments where we didn't," Judkins said, "but we hung in there to win."

As the second half began, the Cougars saw their dominating first half lead dwindle under a 20-9 run by the Dons but BYU still kept their lead in double-figures through the majority of the second half.

The first time the Dons were able to cut the lead to single-digits came with only two minutes to play in the game after a 3-pointer from San Francisco. The Cougars were quick to respond and put the lead back up to 10 after a lay-up from Alexis Kaufusi.

The Cougars ended the game with 21 assists to tie their season-high and shot 50 percent from the field compared to San Francisco's 43 percent.

BYU will continue playing in the Hukilau Invitational in Hawaii tomorrow at 4 p.m. MST against the University of Hawaii.
