WACO -- The Cougars' run in the Preseason Women's National Invitation Tournament came to an end Wednesday evening, as No.16 Baylor defeated No. 18 BYU, 84-58.

"Baylor is a very good team," head coach Jeff Judkins said. "We're going to learn from this game. We're not happy right now, but we'll get better."

BYU got off to a fast start, jumping out to a 10-6 lead five minutes into the game thanks to buckets from four different Cougar starters.

The Lady Bears quickly responded with a 12-0 run as Latara Darrett and Jessica Bradley took it the Cougars.

Dani Kubik Wright broke the BYU drought at the 8:47 mark, draining a three pointer.

With two minutes remaining in the half, BYU cut the lead to three, 30-26, but Baylor went on an 8-0 to go into the locker room.

Baylor picked up right where they left off during the second half of action, widening its lead to 19 points off a jumper from Jessica Morrow less than three minutes into the half.

BYU never gave up and continued to battle and learn to handle the Lady Bears' swarming pressure, although never really cutting into the lead.

"We didn't handle their pressure very well," Judkins said. "We need to learn to stick to our game plan. Hopefully we learned a lot tonight and will be better prepared next time."

Bernice Mosby of Baylor led all players with a quiet 28 points and eight rebounds. Jessica Morrow and Angela Tisdale each chipped in 14 points apiece, while Darrett added 12 points of her own. Jhasmin Player and Jessika Bardley each grabbed seven boards on the evening.

Three Cougars scored in double figures. Kubik Wright netted 17 points, while Jennie Keele and Shawnee Slade and 12 and 11 points, respectively. Slade's 11 points is a career high for her. Kubik, Keele and Slade also posted five rebounds apiece.

The two keys of the game were turnovers and bench points. The Lady Bears scored 27 points off turnovers, while BYU netted 12. Baylor bench also outscored the Cougars' bench, 20-10.

BYU will immediately turn around and play Fresno State in California Friday. Tip off is set for 8 p.m. MDT.
