RIVERSIDE -- After defeating UC Riverside 76-53, Wednesday evening in California, the perfect women's basketball team (6-0) now holds the honor of most consecutive wins at the start of a season.

"This was a very hard game for us, but we did a great job of executing our game plan," head coach Jeff Judkins said.

BYU's leader Ambrosia Anderson had another stellar performance, netting 21 points and pulling down 8 boards. On the season, Anderson is averaging 21. 5 points, 9.7 rebounds and 3 assists per game.

"I was very proud of how Ambrosia played today," Judkins said. "She let the game come to her tonight, which is why she's becoming one of the best players in the conference."

BYU dominated during the first half, earning an 11 point lead, 33-22, going into the break. Anderson and Lauren Riley lead the Cougars in the first half with eight points apiece.

The Cougars shot 50 percent from the field compared to Riverside's 25 percent. The team also held a 16-4 advantage for points scored in the paint and a 13-7 advantage in bench points. The only downside to the Cougars' play in the first half was losing the rebounding competition 22-18.

BYU's Jennie Keele and Melinda Johnson drew the tough assignment of guarding standout forward Kemie Nkele, who is averaging 15.6 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 1.8 blocked shots per game. Keele and Johnson held her to just six points in the first half, but picked up three fouls early in the second. Her time was limited the remainder of the game as she was forced to play with four fouls. She ended with 20 points.

"Jennie had one of her best games this season," Judkins said. "She did a great job defensively."

Mallory Gillespie scored 11 points for BYU, while Keele and Riley each added 10.

BYU shot 46 percent from the field and 69 percent from the free throw line on the game.

The Cougars return home to the Marriott Center on Saturday where they will face Northern Arizona at 2 p.m.
