Cougars Win Final Home Game Over SDSU, 87-56

PROVO -- Playing her last game in the Marriott Center, All-American senior guard Erin Thorn scored 22 points and dished out seven assists and tallied three blocks to lead BYU past San Diego State 87-56, Saturday. The Cougars improve to 16-8 (7-4) while the Aztecs drop to 8-14 (2-8) on the season.

"Erin Thorn makes a coach look good," head coach Jeff Judkins said. "It will be hard to see her go."

The Cougars had four players in double figures in their second highest scoring output of the season. Sophomore Danielle Cheesman scored 15 points on 7-13 shooting from the floor despite suffering a slight concussion at the beginning of the second half.

Junior center Ashleigh Chamberlain scored 12 points in 14 minutes and freshman forward Ambrosia Anderson chipped in 10 points, her second straight game in double figures.

A total of 11 Cougars scored in the game, including all four seniors that played. Six seniors were honored with their families before the game with a framed picture and roses including Brittany Larson and Chanell Rose who did not play due to injury.

"It was a nice win," Judkins said. "I was glad we had an opportunity to play the seniors a lot in this game."

For the Aztecs, Jamey Cox scored 18 points and hit four three-point shots and Ashlee Dunlap added 13 on 6-8 shooting.

The Cougars shot 51 percent from the floor for the game and held the Aztecs to only 20 points in the first half on 32 percent shooting. Seven different Cougars hit a shot from behind the arc as the team finished 9-20.

The Cougars play at first-place Utah at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Huntsman Center.
