Gustin named AP All-America Honorable Mention
SAN ANTONIO — BYU women’s basketball sophomore forward Lauren Gustin was named a 2020-21 AP All-America Honorable Mention, the Associated Press announced Wednesday.
Gustin, who received 2020-21 All-WCC First Team honors earlier this month, is the sixth Cougar in program history to be named AP All-America Honorable Mention. Gustin joins Ambrosia Anderson (2006), Dani Kubik Wright (2007), Kristen Riley (2012), Jennifer Hamson (2014), Morgan Bailey (2015) and Lexi Eaton Rydalch (2015, 2016) as BYU women’s basketball players to receive the honor.
The Salem, Utah, native is averaging a double-double for the Cougars this season with 12.8 rebounds and 11.5 points per contest. Gustin currently ranks fifth in the nation in rebounds per game and fourth in defensive boards per contest (9.2). Gustin’s most dominant performance of the season came against Pepperdine on Feb. 4, when the sophomore forward racked up 27 points and 20 points in 32 minutes of action.
In addition to Gustin, two other WCC women's basketball players were honored as AP honorable mention selections in Jill Townsend and Jenn Wirth of Gonzaga.
Gustin and the No. 11 seed Cougars will take on No. 6 seed Rutgers in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in San Marcos, Texas on Monday, March 22. The contest will tip-off at 11 a.m. CDT on ESPNU.
