SAN BRUNO, Calif. — The West Coast Conference has named Shaylee Gonzales its University Credit Union Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for Nov. 30, 2020. This is the second career WCC Player of the Week honor for Gonzales.

Additionally, College Sports Madness also named Gonzales its WCC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for Nov. 30, 2020.

Gonzales dropped a game-high 30 points to lead BYU to a season-opening 67-51 win over LSU at the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout in Las Vegas. Gonzales, playing in her first game since the 2019 NCAA Tournament after missing last season with an ACL injury, shot 11 of 14 from the field and added four rebounds, three assists and three steals.

The Gilbert, Arizona, native showed little sign of rust as she drained her first six shots of the contest and made 6 of 7 from three-point range. Gonzales also played the entire 40 minutes of the ballgame.

Playing against Washington the following night, Gonzales tallied five points and six rebounds in a 77-48 loss. For the week, the sophomore guard averaged 17.5 points, five rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game.
