BYU plays San Jose State and No.4 Oregon State in Maui
PROVO, Utah— BYU women’s basketball closes out its nonconference schedule at the Maui Jim Maui Classic in Lahaina, Hawaii on Dec.18-19.
The Cougars take on San Jose State on Wednesday, Dec. 18 and No. 4 Oregon State on Thursday, Dec. 19. Wednesday’s contest tips off at 5:30 p.m. HT with Thursday’s game tipping off at 7:30 p.m. HT. Both matchups will be carried live online on byuradio.org and online on byucougars.com.
ABOUT BYU
- The Cougars are 4-4 on the year heading into the last week of nonconference play
- With 397 total wins, head coach Jeff Judkins is the all-time winningest men’s or women’s BYU basketball head coach. He needs three wins to reach 400 victories, a coaching milestone
- Paisley Johnson leads the team in scoring averaging 16 points per game; senior guard Brenna Chase Drollinger follows contributing 11.7 points per contest; Drollinger currently ranks 28th all-time in career points with 1,031
- Maria Albiero tops the leaderboard in assists with a 3.8 average; Drollinger leads in steals with a 2.1 average; Sara Hamson leads the way in rebounds and blocks, pulling down 8.9 boards a game and getting 3.8 bocks a contest

- San Jose State has compiled an 8-3 record to date and is on a three-game win streak; the Spartans were selected to finish in last place in the 11-member Mountain West Conference race; SJ State is the fourth team that BYU has played this year; they beat Fresno State and Utah State and lost to Boise State
- Sophomore guard Azyhiana Basallo is one of three Spartan players recording double figures in points with a 21.3 average; junior forward Tyra Whitehead is next in scoring with a 15.3 average, Megan Anderson, a junior guard rounds out the scoring with a 10.5 average; Whitehead also averages 9.2 rebounds per game
- San Jose State is averaging 84. 6 points a game while grabbing 36.3 boards a contest
- Head coach Jamie Craighead is in her sixth season at San Jose State where she has compiled a 72-124 record
- In the series history, BYU leads the series 3-2 and this is the first time the two teams have met since 1999

- Oregon State enters the Maui Jim Maui Classic with a perfect 9-0 record; the No.4 ranked Beavers are the fourth team from the Pac-12 that the Cougars play this season; BYU is 0-3 against those opponents
- The Beavers have a balanced scoring threat with four players scoring in double digits, led by a double-double from senior guard Mikayla Pivec with 16.1 points and 10.4 rebounds a game, guard Destiny Slocum is next with 14.6 points, teammate Taylor Jones is contributing 13.6 points while Aleah Goodman averages 10.8 points a contest; Pivec also leads the away in assists and steals with 5.9 and 1.8 averages; Kennedy Brown gets the most blocks with a 2.0 average
