Cougars picked third in WCC race, Broadhead Devashrayee named to Preseason Team

WCC Preseason Poll full release

LAS VEGAS — BYU women’s basketball was picked to finish third in the 2017-18 West Coast Conference Preseason Poll, as selected by the league’s 10 coaches, announced the league office from the WCC Media Day event at the Orleans Arena.

Gonzaga was picked to finish first with eight first-place votes. Saint Mary’s was selected to finish second and received two first-place votes.

The Bulldogs won the league race last year with a 14-4 mark. The Gaels and Cougars tied for second place with identical 13-5 conference records.

Coming in fourth place in this year’s poll is San Diego, followed by Loyola Marymount in fifth, Santa Clara sixth, San Francisco seventh and Pacific eighth. Pepperdine and Portland round out the ninth and 10th place finish.

Reigning WCC 2017 Player of the Year senior Cassie Broadhead Devashrayee, was named to the 10-member 2017-18 All-WCC Preseason Women’s Basketball Team.

Devashrayee was second in the league in scoring, in free throw percentage and in 3-point field goal percentage last season. She ranked third in field goal percentage and fourth in assists.
