Team hosts Boston College Saturday

The BYU women’s basketball team returns to the Marriott Center on Saturday, Nov. 16 when it hosts Boston College. The Cougars (2-0) and the Eagles (1-1) take the court at 4 p.m. BYU Radio will carry the game live following the conclusion of the BYU football game vs. Idaho State.

About BYU
At least four different players have scored in double figures in each of the two games the BYU team has played to date. The team has also outrebounded its opponents and has recorded more assists in both contests.

BYU returns nine letterwinners and two starters from a team that compiled a 23-11 record last season, finished tied for third in the West Coast Conference and competed for the second straight year in the postseason WNIT.

Last month, the Cougar women were picked to finish fourth in the WCC regular season race behind San Diego, Saint Mary’s and league favorite Gonzaga. Senior center Jennifer Hamson was named to the preseason all-conference team, her second such honor.

About Boston College
Boston College opened the season losing to No. 3 Stanford at home followed by a road victory at Hofstra. The Eagles are making their first ever appearance in the Marriott Center.

BC returns eight letterwinners including three starters. Last year, the Eagles compiled a 12-19 record finishing in 10th place in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The team was selected to finish 11th out of 15 league teams in the preseason polls.

Boston College leads the series 1-0

Last Meeting
The first and only previous meeting between these two teams was last season in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts on Nov. 15. In that closely fought matchup, Boston College picked up the 62-56 home win. Sophomore Lexi Eaton led BYU with a game-high 17 points, five rebounds and three assists. Senior Haley Steed contributed 11 points to go along with her five assists. Another senior, Keilani Unga pulled down career and team highs in rebounds with nine. The Cougars outrebounded the Eagles by two, 36-34 and shot 40 percent from the field and 63 percent from the charity stripe.

Four players put up double digits in scoring for Boston College led by Katie Zenevitch’s double double of 16 points and 12 rebounds. Teammates Kristin Doherty and Tessah Holt tallied 15 points a piece with 11 more coming from Nicole Boudreau.

The Cougars took a 24-21 edge at halftime, but eventually fell in the final minutes when they were forced to send the Eagles to the free-throw line. BC finished the game shooting 41 percent from the field and 74 percent at the free-throw line.

What’s Next
After the home game vs. Boston College, BYU returns to action on the road traveling to Los Angeles to take on Cal State Northridge on Sat. Nov. 23. It then plays its next two games at home hosting Pac-12 foes Washington State and Arizona on Nov. 26 and 30.
