The 2012-13 campaign ended with the Cougar team compiling a 23-11 record, marking the seventh time under coach Jeff Judkins, that the team has recorded a 20-plus win season.

For the ninth time under Judkins, BYU participated in a postseason tournament. The Cougars made their fourth postseason WNIT appearance, advancing to the third round, capturing wins over Idaho State and San Diego State before falling to WCC foe Saint Mary’s.

In their second year competing in the West Coast Conference, the Cougars finished tied with Saint Mary’s for third place with an 11-5 mark. They entered the 2013 WCC Basketball Championships as the No. 4 seed because the Gaels split the series with Gonzaga during the regular season and BYU lost both meetings with the Bulldogs.  In the league tourney the Cougars beat LMU 69-57 in the quarterfinals, but fell in the semifinals to eventual tournament champion Gonzaga, 62-43.

Despite losing key players to injuries during the 2012-13 season, the team remained confident and concluded the year averaging 64.0 points and pulling down 39.2 rebounds per game. The Cougars also averaged 16.8 assists, 6.8 steals and 4.6 blocks. During WCC play they ranked first in field goal percentage defense, in assists and in 3-point field goals made.

BYU had an impressive advantage when playing in front of its loyal fans in the Marriott Center, finishing the year with a 15-2 record, going 8-1 in nonconference matchups and 7-1 in league action.

Playing in her final season as a Cougar, Haley Steed concluded her career adding her name to several school records. Steed became BYU’s all-time assist leader with a total of 813. She ranks third  all-time in steals with 294 and in 3-pointers made with 262. Steed finished her career with a total of 1,290 points, putting her 16th all-time in the Cougars’ exclusive 1,000-point club and she played in a total of 143 games, which places her first all-time.
