TOWSON, Md. – Stacie Toney, a senior second baseman on the BYU softball team, was named to the Capital One Academic All-America Second Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Toney, an elementary education major from Farmington, Utah, is the second Academic All-American in BYU softball history. Outfielder  Jennifer Whiteley was also a second-team selection in 2007.

A senior captain in the infield, Toney's efforts in the classroom are equal with those on the field. Toney has also been named NFCA Second Team All-Pacific Region, Academic First Team All-Region, WAC Tournament MVP and All-WAC Tournament Team. She batted .367 this season with 62 hits and was second on the team with 10 doubles, 44 RBI and 94 total bases.

Toney was ranked in the top-10 in seven different WAC hitting categories this past season and led BYU to a three-game sweep through the WAC Tournament on her way to being named the Tournament MVP. Toney helped BYU to a 45-15 overall record, the second-most wins in a season in program history, along with an NCAA Regional appearance.

Hitting safely in 10 of her last 11 games to finish out her two-year career at BYU, Toney's other highlights this season included hitting a  walk-off, 2-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Utah State, hitting a triple and a grand slam for five RBI against No. 14 Texas A&M.

The second team also consists of pitchers Ellen Renfroe of Tennessee and Chelsea Thomas of Missouri; catcher Kelsey Horton and outfielder Michelle Moultre of Florida; infielders Jackey Branham and Cassie Reilly-Boccia of Alabama and Chelsea Garcia of Oklahoma State University; outfielders Ashley Fleming of Missouri, Annie Lockwood of Arizona State and designated player Jill Jelnick of East Carolina University.
