BYU to Play in NCAA Regional in Eugene
PROVO, Utah - The BYU softball team will play Mississippi State at the Eugene Regional in the Cougars' eighth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
"Every regional is a tough regional and this is no exception," said BYU coach Gordon Eakin. "But we're confident that if we continue to play BYU softball that we've got a chance to win."
Automatic qualifers out of the Western Athletic Conference after winning the tournament championship against Fresno State on Saturday, BYU (43-13) will begin play on Thursday, May 17, at a time to be announced.
Other teams in the Eugene Regional include No. 11-seed and host Oregon which will face Portland State.
BYU is 0-2 all-time against Mississippi State, last facing off in 2007 when the Bulldogs pulled out a 1-0 win. The Cougars have played both Oregon and Portland State this year, defeating the Ducks 3-2 and the Vikings 4-1 in two separate tournaments in February.
The double-elimination tournament will go Thursday through Saturday with the winner going on to the NCAA Super Regional.
