COLORADO SPRING, Colo. – Senior Paige Affleck, junior Stacie Graham and freshman Jenna Engel were named 2010-11 Mountain West Conference Scholar-Athletes as announced by the conference Tuesday.

Affleck earned the honor for the fourth-consecutive year, the second Cougar softball player to ever do so. A graduate student in exercise physiology, Affleck is completing her master’s thesis this summer and has a 3.52 GPA.

Engel, a freshman from Littleton, Colo., also has a 3.52 GPA in her first year at BYU. Engel played in 11 games with one start last season, batting .375.

Graham, an elementary education major with a 3.74 GPA, played in 49 games for the Cougars in her first year at BYU. Graham totaled 30 hits, including five doubles, in helping BYU claim its third-straight MWC championship.

The MW Scholar-Athlete Award is one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the Conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in an NCAA-sponsored sport.
