Three Cougars Named NFCA All-Region
PROVO, Utah -- BYU seniors Jessica Fitu, Kristin Delahoussaye and Paige Affleck were named to 2011 Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Pacific Region teams as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Thursday.
Fitu and Delahoussaye were named to the All-Pacific Region First Team at catcher and second baseman, respectively, while Affleck earned second-team honors as a pitcher.
Fitu, a senior from Walnut, Calif., was named to the first team after earning first-team recognition in 2009 and second-team honors in 2010. A team captain this year, Fitu is ninth in the nation with 64 RBIs and leads BYU with 63 hits, 12 home runs and 114 total bases.
Also a three-time all-region selection after being named first-team All-Region in 2010 and to the second team as a freshman in 2008, Delahoussaye lead the Mountain West Conference with 46 runs and 42 walks in the regular season while finishing second with four triples. Delahoussaye's 42 walks is currently 14th-most in the nation.
Affleck, who was also named All-MWC earlier this week with Fitu and Delahoussaye in addition to earning MWC Pitcher of the Year honors, boasts a 24-11 record and 1.97 ERA this season. The all-time leader in BYU and MWC history in wins and strikeouts, Affleck was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-Region VIII team for the third-straight year earlier this season.
The three seniors have anchored a team that won its third-straight MWC championship and advanced to the NCAA Regional for the seventh-consecutive year. The Cougars play No. 21 Auburn today at 3:30 p.m. PT to open the 2011 NCAA Tournament.
