PROVO, Utah -- BYU senior pitcher Paige Affleck was named to the Capital One Academic All-District VIII First Team for the third time in her career Friday.

By virtue of being a first-team honoree, Affleck also qualifies for Capital One Academic All-America consideration.

Affleck is currently working on a master's degree in exercise physiology and will finish her thesis later this year. After earning her associate degree while still in high school, Affleck earned her bachelor's degree in exercise science before continuing on with graduate studies for the past two years.

In addition to maintaining an average GPA of 3.60 over the course of her studies, Affleck is BYU's all-time leader in wins, strikeouts, innings pitched, shutouts, appearances and complete games. She was named to the NFCA/Louisville Slugger All-District Second Team last season and is a two-time Mountain West Conference First Team selection.

This season, the New Harmony, Utah, native leads the league in wins (22), strikeouts (188), innings pitched (196.2) and opposing batting average (.204), while ranking second with a 1.96 ERA.

Affleck was one of two pitchers named to the All-District VIII team and is one of two graduate students among all Academic All-District honorees. The Cougar ace was also one of two Mountain West Conference athletes to receive the award along with New Mexico sophomore outfielder Cassandra Kalapsa who was a District VI second-team selection.
