Affleck's 11 Strikeouts Beats Bengals

PROVO, Utah -- BYU came away with a win against Idaho State in a 2-0 shutout Tuesday at Gail Miller Field.

With 11 strikeouts, Paige Affleck pitched a one-walk shutout for her third double-digit strikeout game this season. Madisen Robb recorded the only RBI of the night for BYU, with Kristin Delahoussaye and Stacie Graham each earning a run apiece.

JC Clayton lead all batters, hitting 3-for-4 while Delahoussaye had two walks, a hit and a run.

After Idaho State went three up, three down, Delahoussaye earned BYU’s only run on a double steal play in the bottom of the first after drawing a lead-off walk.

The second and third innings gave way for singles from Jessica Dugas, JC Clayton and Jessica Fitu. In the fourth, Delahoussaye hit a left-field double off the fence, but BYU was unable to take advantage of the hits and remained at one run through five innings.

After a single from Graham, a successful bunt put Dugas safe on first and Graham on second. Delahoussaye was then put out, but not before advancing the runners to second and third. Graham was then able to make it home on a ground-out double by pinch-hitter Robb and improved the score to 2-0.

Next up, the Cougars will take on San Diego State this Thursday, April 28, at 6 p.m. at Gail Miller Field.
