Early Runs Not Enough

HONOLULU -- After scoring two runs in the first, the BYU softball team allowed four runs in one inning as No. 9 California earned the 4-2 victory on Thursday at the Hawaii Spring Fling Tournament.

Sophomore JC Clayton hit a perfect 3-for-3 with a walk and a run, but the short stop was the only Cougar with more than one hit.

Clayton and junior Jessica Dugas brought in BYU's runs early after senior Caschjen Atagi hit a single up the middle for two RBI.

But the fourth inning was all Cal needed. The first five Golden Bear hitters reached safely, including a bunt by junior Jace Williams with the bases loaded that scored all three runners on base.
