COLORADO SPRINGS -- BYU senior third baseman Angeline Quiocho was named Mountain West Conference Player of the Week Tuesday for her performance during last week’s five-game road trip.

Quiocho, a Walnut, Calif., product, batted .533 (8-for-15) with six homers, one double, 18 RBI and 10 runs scored, as the first-place Cougars went 4-1 on the week, including a 2-1 record in Conference play. She also tallied a slugging percentage of 1.800 and an on-base efficiency of .682 over five games.

In BYU’s doubleheader sweep of Southern Utah (9-0 and 20-0), she went 4-for-9 from the plate overall. In game one, Quiocho went 2-for-4 with one double, three RBI and one run scored, while going 2-for-5 with two homers, six RBI and three runs scored in game two. In an 8-7 game one loss at UNLV, she went 3-for-4 with an MWC single-game tying record three home runs, six RBI and three runs scored. In a 14-8 game two win over the Rebels, Quiocho went 1-for-1 with a three-run homer and three runs scored. She was also walked four times. Defensively, Quiocho had four putouts and six assists for the week.

Quiocho’s third player of the week award came on the same day the Ultimate College Softball Top 25 Coach Poll was released, in which the Cougars are ranked No. 25. During the 2010 season, BYU has been ranked as high as No. 20 in that poll and No. 23 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top-25 poll.

The Cougars look to jump in the polls and increase their post-season chances as they finish regular season play this week against in-state foes Utah Valley Wednesday, and rival Utah Saturday.

The Cougars are 2-0 against the Utes this season, winning 4-1 and 6-5 in a two game series in Provo back in April. The matchup against UVU is the Cougars’ first of the season. The Cougars have a commanding 22-1 all-time record against the Wolverines.

Wednesday’s game against UVU is set for 6 p.m. at Gail Miller Field, and Saturday’s matchup against Utah is at 1 p.m in Salt Lake City.
