BYU Ends Its Vegas Tour 4-1

LAS -- After a hard-fought loss to No. 9 Georgia Tech yesterday, the Cougars finished their Vegas tournament on a winning note by beating Illinois-Chicago 3-1 and Cal State Fullerton 10-3.
In their first game, the Cougars (9-1) were first to put points on the board in the bottom of the first inning. The scoring sequence started when Kristin Delahoussaye singled to right field, followed two batters later by Angie Quiocho who singled to left.
Jessica Fitu smacked the ball deep to centerfield with a sacrifice fly which advanced Delahoussaye to third and placing the Cougars in scoring position.
On the next pitch, Delahoussaye took off for home after a wild pitch and scored. Quiocho stole second during this play as well.
The Flames were quick to answer in the top of the second with a one-run homer which tied the game one-all.
In the bottom of the fifth, BYU went on the offensive again scoring two runs off a Delaney Willard single to right field.
BYU played a strong defensive game throughout all seven innings of play. Christie Zinanti was solid from the mound facing 25 batters, striking out 6 and giving up one run off of five hits.
"Christie pitched a great game today. She showed great control and anchored our team," BYU head coach Gordon Eakin. "She had great control of her pitches, and she has, and will, continue to make great improvements as the season goes on."
Caschjen Atagi had two back-to-back excellent defensive plays in the top of the third. Each time, when the ball was hit to her in left field, the UIC runners rounded first in hopes to take second. It was Atagi's defensive hustle, and accurate throwing abilities which got each runner out at second, accounting for two out of three outs of the inning.
The Flames threatened to score twice in the sixth innings with bases loaded, but Zinanti kept her composure and retired the side.
