COLORADO SPRINGS -- BYU junior righthander Christie Zinanti has been named Mountain West Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week.

“Christie has been exceptional for us over the last two months,” BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said. “She’s found the competitive spirit and determination to win games, and it’s nice to see Christie reach her potential.”

Zinanti, a native of Pueblo, Colo., earned her 49th career win with a complete-game performance over Utah Valley. She earned her second save of the season during the second game of the twinbill.

In the first game, the junior limited the Wolverines to two hits, while striking out nine batters in five innings of work to record her 18th win of the season.

She made a relief appearance in game two, pitching one inning and facing four batters to complete the game. Zinanti did not allow an earned run in the doubleheader, while fanning 10 batters over six innings.

With four MWC games slated between UNLV and San Diego State, Zinanti looks to earn her 50th career win and to break the BYU all-time strikeout record. She is 10 strikeouts from tying the record.

BYU plays UNLV in Las Vegas on Thursday at 5 p.m. (PDT) before heading to San Diego for three games.
