Snow Named MWC Co-Player of the Week
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- BYU senior Daniela Snow and San Diego State senior Megan McDonald have been named Mountain West Conference Softball Co-Players of the Week, while San Diego State senior lefthander Christina Ross has earned Pitcher of the Week honors.
"Snow has performed well for us all year," BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said. "She is very deserving of this award and it is nice for her to receive the recognition."
Snow, from Corona, Calif., led BYU to a 2-1 record last week. Against Utah Valley, she batted 1.000 (4-for-4) with three home runs, including a grand slam to bring in the first four runs of the game. Snow belted another homer in her next at-bat, while also managing a single and a third home run in the fifth inning to combine for eight RBI in the game, marking a new school record. In the first game against Utah, she again batted 1.000, going 2-for-2 and driving in another run to help the Cougars to a five-inning, 8-0 victory.
McDonald, a Glendale, Ariz., native, led the Aztecs to a 5-0 away record over the weekend. McDonald exploded for three home runs in five games against MWC foes New Mexico and Colorado State. She posted a hit in all five games, including three hits and the game-winning RBI against cross-town rival San Diego. McDonald led SDSU in batting average (.474), hits (19), home runs (3), RBI (6) and slugging percentage (.947), while posting a perfect fielding percentage in a team-high 29 chances.
Ross, hailing from Santa Clarita, Calif., played a significant part in all five of SDSU's wins last week. She went 4-0 with one save in 22 1/3 innings of work. Over the week, Ross pitched two complete games, including a shutout, while holding opponents to a .228 batting average. She allowed only two earned runs and four walks, while striking out 15 batters.
